An Invitation…

Noost is delighted to announce our first knitting retreat, here in Ullapool!

We’ve partnered with the wonderful Terri Laura from Shetland to put together a truly unique knitting experience this July. We’d love you to join us.

Come and immerse yourself in some of the most inspirational landscapes of Scotland, and have your knitting skills and creativity nurtured by one of Shetland’s finest artisans. The Shetland knitting tradition is strong is Terri’s family; she’s been working with yarn since childhood and raised in the local ways.

Every now and then you come across a knitwear designer that just… gets it. Terri is one of them. Her talent for colour is unsurpassed.

You’ll have a choice of several accessories to knit during the four days retreat. Terri will guide you through her process and how she puts together a colourway. We’ll use our in-house knitting machines here at Noost to swatch your own colour selection before Terri guides you through knitting your pattern of choice.

This isn’t a classroom based learning experience. We’ll use our beautiful Noost workshop as a base, but will get out and about to experience some lovely spots around Ullapool and the local area too.

This is your invitation to slow down, relax, and enjoy people, place and tradition while you make something beautiful.

Arrival and welcome dinner: 6th July.
Knitting 7th to 10th July, with checkout on the 10th.

From Terri:

Spend 4 days designing and knitting in the Highlands of Scotland. While you’re with us, you’ll have the chance to take in the local surroundings and gather inspiration for your new Fair Isle design, which you’ll then develop into your own collection of accessories. Your design will form a full set of accessories — a hat, cowl and pair of gloves. Cast on whichever project you choose and begin knitting your new design. The atmosphere at Noost is something special: a working knitwear factory and shop, with a designer on-hand throughout. Using the resources at Noost, we’ll be able to explore swatching and test ideas efficiently, giving you a unique opportunity to develop your vision with an experienced team behind you.

About Terri

Terri is a Shetland knitter, designer and teacher, working in both hand and machine knitting. Specialising in traditional Fair Isle and Shetland wool, she brings personality to every design she creates and enjoys helping others to do the same. Having grown up on a croft surrounded by animals and knitwear, and now raising her own family in the same way, Terri’s work is rooted in an authentic Shetland way of life, alongside running her knitwear business.

Questions… and Answers

When is the workshop?

It’s four days, from the 6th to 9th July inclusive.

Is accommodation included / What's it like?

Yes! We’ve booked space in a lovely hotel in the centre of Ullapool. It's ideally situated - right across the road from our workshop, and perfect for exploring the village in the evenings.
There are a few options - you can book a double room for two, a double room with single occupancy, or opt to share a twin room. That can be two friends coming together, or it’s a cost-effective way of sharing with someone you’ll meet during the workshop. All rooms are en-suite.

Are meals included?

They are! Breakfast is served at your digs each day, and we’ll visit a variety of local cafes and restuarants for lunch and dinner through the stay. If the weather cooperates, we might arrange a nice pic-nic for a day out, catered by the amazing little cafe across from Noost!

What do we knit?

Terri will provide patterns for a hat, cowl, and a pair of gloves. If you’re fast, you might knit more than one! Either way, you’ll go home with the pattern for all three.

Do you provide yarn?

Yes, we’ve a great selection of Jamieson’s yarn here at Noost, and you’ll be able to pick your colourways from our stock.

How many people are coming?

There is space for an absolute maximum on 10 on the workshop.

Is there a minimum no of people?

Yes, we need a minimum of 6 people. If we don’t manage to book 6 spots by a month in advance of the date, we’ll refund deposits and get in touch to see if you’d like to keep your accommodation booking to come up anyway (at cost price).

My partner doesn’t knit, can they come along for the ride?

Absolutely! They’re welcome to join us for meals (though we might be elsewhere for some lunches!), and can tag along when we’re out exploring the area. There’s loads to explore. We can provide walking and photography guidebooks if they’d like to venture out themselves, or we can point them in the right direction for anything else they might be interested in!

How do we book?

Select the accommodation option to suit your preference, and hit the button!

There's a £100 booking fee, and we'll be in touch to confirm, and get some more information about you and your knitting experience shortly. Then we'll invoice you for the balance 4 weeks before the event.

I’ve another question…

Drop us a line at hello@noostknit.co.uk and we’ll get back to you with an answer!
